A festive surprise in the "Villa Hahn"
With the unveiling of a bust community4you AG honored the life's work of Prof. Dr. Carl Hahn.
The honorary citizen of Chemnitz, Prof. Dr. Carl H. Hahn, was not anticipating anything as he followed an invitation to an event that took place on 24 June 2014 in the "Villa Hahn", which is honorably named after him.
The occasion for this event, organized by community4you AG, was the upcoming 88th birthday of the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Volkswagen AG.
Numerous guests from Saxon economy and politics, including the Lord Mayor of Chemnitz Barbara Ludwig, representatives of the Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH and the VW Motorenwerkes Chemnitz, as well as the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Board and the employees of community4you AG came together to honor Prof. Hahn for his life's work.

The former Chairman of the Board of Directors of VW has not only experienced a half century of industrial history, but has also played an active role in it. Under his leadership Volkswagen has developed to the largest automobile manufacturer in Europe. Furthermore he has contributed enormously to the Saxon economy by advocating the resumption of the production in the old facilities in his hometown Chemnitz and in Zwickau. Due to his decision VW became the largest investor in East Germany after the reunification. Saxony alone owes to his commitment the creation of many thousands of jobs.

To this day Prof. Hahn has been contributing vigorously to both Germany and his home region of Saxony. He is still actively involved not only in economy, but also in social activities. Thus Carl Hahn is engaged in numerous political, cultural and social organisations such as the "Saxony International School - Carl Hahn gemeinnützige GmbH". This network of schools stands for pioneering educational concepts and includes currently nine free schools with more than 1,000 students. Furthermore in 2006 Prof. Hahn founded the present-day "Carl and Marisa Hahn Foundation", which is dedicated to promoting youth education, elderly care, culture and art as well as science and technology.
Prof. Carl H. Hahn is and will remain a part of Volkswagen. Half a century he has collaborated with a sense for innovation and development as well as with the needed professionalism on the vision of transforming VW into the biggest automobile group. After the reunification, he brought back the automotive industry to Saxony and thus helped to create thousands of jobs. All this shows us that Prof. Hahn has always lived his political and ethical responsibility. A European industry manager such as him is a role model both for us and for future generations of entrepreneurs. It is very important for us to pay an appropriate tribute to the enormous economic and social commitment of Prof. Hahn.

For this reason community4you AG has commissioned the creation of a portrait bust in honor of Prof. Hahn, with which a monument will be set honoring his enormous accomplishments and commitment.
The unveiling of the sandstone portrait bust of Prof. Dr. Carl H. Hahn, created by the sculptress Romy Kumann from the renowned Dresdner stonemason and sculptor studio Hempel, was the absolute highlight of the event.

Prof. Hahn was very impressed by the stylish artwork that reminded him of his father, to whom he looks very similar.

The bust will take a prestigious place in the "Villa Hahn" in which Carl H. Hahn has spent many years of his childhood and youth, and which has been named after him since 2008.

Its diverse utilisations since the 1950s had left their mark and many original components were destroyed by various reconstruction measures. Several fires deteriorated further the state of the building. The villa was carefully renovated and restored under consideration of the regulations of monument protection and today it represents a piece of history of the town of Chemnitz.
